1Why is Actos prescribed?

Actos is a medication that can be used as a monotherapy as well as in combination therapy with some other drugs. It contains pioglitazone as an active ingredient that helps to maintain the sugar level of blood. It is generally prescribed for the patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 

2How to use it?

Actos tablets are oral drugs that can be recommended to take it with or without food. It is usually taken once daily at the same time to avoid missing a dose. Swallow the drug as whole with a full glass of water. Don't chew, crush or break the tablet. 

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If a dose is missed due to any reason, it should be taken later, as soon as you remember. If the time is nearer to the next dose then skip the previous dose and continue with the next dose. Don't take both the doses at the same time to catch up any missed dose. 

If a higher dose is taken than prescribed dose then it leads to overdose that always needs an urgent medical response. Many of the symptoms are shown due to overdose that include some symptoms of hypoglycemia. So don't take or stop the dosage of drugs on their own as it may show some adverse effects. 

3Side-effects:

Some unwanted effects of Actos may occur due to the active or inactive ingredients that are also called as side effects. Side-effects of Actos tablets may include stomach pain, pain full urination, blood in urine, chest pain, itching, weight gain , jaundice and blurry vision. Discontinue the medication and call your physician or pharmacist at once, if you have any severe side effects. 

4Drug Interactions:

Pioglitazone may interact with various drugs and leads to moderate to severe interactions. Consult your health care profession for any kind of information. Don't take or stop the medication without consulting your physician. It may interact with antibiotics, antihypertensive or some other antidiabetic medications. Consult your physician if you notice any symptoms. 

5Precautions:

  • Avoid any alcoholic preparation. 
  • Avoid driving or any other work that needs alertness. 
  • If you have any liver or kidney disorder then tell it to your physician. 
  • If you notice any hypersensitivity reaction, inform your physician. 
  • Follow all the instructions carefully to avoid any adverse effects.
