    1Why is Duetact prescribed?

    Duetact is a prescription medication that is a combination of two drugs i.e glimepiride and pioglitazone. It is used for maintaining the blood sugar level in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Together, they provide better control on hyperglycemic conditions that are to control the blood sugar level that can’t be controlled by regular dietary supplements.

    2How to use it?

    It is generally recommended to take duetact tablet with your first meal of the day. Swallow the tablet as whole, don’t chew ,crush or break the tablet. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose, according to your medical history. It is beneficial to take the dose at the same time as advised by your physician.

    3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

    Try to avoid missing a dose of duetact , as missed dose leads to enhance the blood sugar level of your body. If you forget to take a dose then skip that dose and go back to your regular schedule. Don’t take both the doses at a time to get the missed dose. Consult your physician if you missed a dose and realize too much sugar level of blood .

    Duetact overdose may lead to life-threatening hypoglycemia. Some symptoms may be shown like severe hypoglycaemia that  includes extreme weakness, nausea, tremors, sweating, confusion, trouble speaking, fast heartbeats, or seizure.if any of the symptoms is realized by you, then call your physician or seek emergency medical attention as earlier.

    4Side–effects:

    Side-effects are the unwanted effects of a drug that may occur due to the active as well as inactive medicament . Some side effects that may be shown by these duetact tablets are painful or difficult urination, changes in your vision, upper stomach pain, vomiting, tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice , shortness of breath, swelling in your legs or feet, rapid weight gain.  These are not all the side effects that are caused by this drug ,some others may also occur. Consult with your physician for any queries regarding any side effects.

    5Drug Interactions:

    Don’t take the drug with any other drug without consulting your physician to avoid any type of interactions. Some interactions are beneficial for us whereas some may show severe adverse effects. Your physician or pharmacist should be aware about all types of interaction that may be caused by this drug ,so that they can advise  properly how the drug is used with all precautions. Follow all the guidelines that can be provided by your physician or pharmacist.

    6 Precautions:

    • Discontinue the medication if you have severe cardiac heart failure or lactic acidosis.
    • Avoid consumption of alcohol.
    • Don’t take or stop the medication on their own.
    • If you want to change the dose or the medication ,consult your pharmacist first.
    • Describe a proper medical history to your physician that includes all the prescripttion and nonprescription drugs that can be taken by you.
