1Why is Starlix prescribed?

Nateglinide drugs are sold under the various trade names, Starlix is one of them. It belongs to the class of drugs called meglitinides. It helps by increasing the synthesis of insulin by pancreas and thereby control the blood sugar level of the body. It is used in type 2 diabetes mellitus usually occurs in adults or associated with obesity. 

2How to use it?

Starlix is highly recommended to take it before( 30 minutes) meal. Don't take or change the dosage without consultation with the physician. Swallow the drug as whole don't chew, crush or break the tablet. It is beneficial to take the dose each day at the same time. 

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If u forget to take a dose, don't be panic, you can take it later. If the time exceeded to the time of next dose, then skip the previous dose. Don't take both the doses at the same time to avoid any overdose of the drug. 

Overdose of Starlix, may lead to severe side effects that always need an emergency medical attention . It may leads to lowering of blood sugar and show many severe symptoms. In this case, Consult to your health care profession as early as possible. Or you can also call to any poison control centre. 

4Side-effects:

Some common side effects that are shown by Starlix tablets are weight gain, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, diarrhoea, nausea, back pain, dizziness or joint pain and condition like hypoglycemia. These are not all the side-effect that are caused by this drug. If any symptoms are shown then inform to your physician. 

5Interactions:

Interactions may occur due to various reasons and some may enhance the efficacy of the drug and some may reduce. Some drugs that interact with this drug are thiazides, corticosteroids, thyroid products, sympathomimetics, somatropin, antibiotics and some antihypertensive drugs. Consult with your physician if you take any other food or medication with Starlix tablets. 

6Precautions:

  • Avoid any alcoholic beverages. 
  • Avoid driving or any other work that need alertness. 
  • If you have any liver or kidney disorder then tell it to your physician. 
  • Follow all the instructions carefully to avoid any adverse effects. 
  • If you realize that the condition is getting worse instead of getting better, then discontinue the dose and inform to your physician or pharmacist right away.
