1Why is Metaglip prescribed?
Metaglip (Glipizide / Metformin) is a prescription drug that is a combination of two drugs i.e metformin and glipizide. It is prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in which the body is not able to synthesize enough insulin. This combination is used as they provide better control on blood sugar level.Â
2How to use Metaglip?
Generally metaglip tablets are taken with the first meal of the day. Take the drug exactly advised by your physician. Don't take more or less dose by itself without consulting. Swallow the drug as whole and don't chew, crush or break the tablet.Â
3What if I miss a dose or overdose :-
If you missed any dose due to some reason, then take that dose as early as you remember. You should take the drug later. If time is exceeded to the time of the next dose then skip the dose. Don't take both the doses at a time to catch up the missed dose.Â
Overdose of a drug needs urgent medical supervision. Because it may show some moderate to severe symptoms like hypoglycemia. Some side effects include vision impairment, stomach pain, seizures, confusion etc. In this case consult your pharmacist right away.Â
4Metaglip Side-effects:
Metaglip may cause hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, throat infection, Lactic acidosis,Â
Muscle weakness, nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, irregular heart rate. If any of the above symptoms are shown then consult your pharmacist right away. These are not enough side effects other may also occur.Â
5Metaglip Drug Interactions:
As the drugs are interacted with food as well as other drugs. If you take Metaglip with some other drugs like isoniazid, diuretics, B.P medication, niacin, steroids, phenothiazines, you may be more likely to have increased blood sugar level that is hyperglycemia. So consult your pharmacist,who is already aware about all the interactions that may be shown by the drugs.Â
6Precautions on taking Metaglip:
- Avoid alcohol as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis.Â
- If you have any cardiac or renal impairment then use the drug with more precautions.Â
- Don't take the drug without prescription.Â
- Follow all the instructions carefully to get more effect on the drug.Â
- If you have any hypersensitivity with the drug, then you should inform your physician right away.
