    1Why is Glucovance prescribed?

    Glucovance tablet is a combination of two drugs i.e metformin and glyburide. It is prescribed for controlling the blood sugar level of your body in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is recommended to take it with a proper diet and exercise that maintain the sugar level. 

    2How to use it?

    Glucovance can be taken with meals to avoid any gastric side effects. Swallow the tablet as whole with a full glass of water, don't chew, crush or break the tablet. It is better to take the doses regularly as advised by your physician to avoid non compliance. 

    3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

    If you miss or skip a dose, then the blood sugar level of your body is gradually increasing and leads to hyperglycemia and shows some side effects that need urgent medical supervision. Don't take both the doses at a time to catch up the missed dose. 

    Overdose of glucovance tablets may lead to lowering of blood sugar level that may show some moderate to severe side effects. These effects may include Blurred vision, weakness, hypersensitivity, seizures, confusion etc. If you realize that you take an overdose of Glucovance, then call your physician or any poison control centre right away or without any delay. 

    4Side-effects:

    Side-effects of glucovance tablets may include gastric upset, nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice, confusion etc. 

    Some other side effects may also be shown by this drug, Consult to your health care provider for any other. 

    5Drug Interactions:

    There are various causes of drug interactions like drugs are taken with beverages, supplements, or other drugs. Glucovance tablets may interact with various drugs and lead to moderate to severe interactions. It may interact with insulin preparation, metformin ,Januvia, frusemide, and metoprolol etc. Some other interactions may also occur, Consult your physician for it.

    6Precautions:

    • Don't take the drug without prescription. 
    • Avoid alcoholic beverages. 
    • If you have any cardiac or renal impairment, inform your physician. 
    • Inform your proper medical history to your physician. 
    • Follow all the guidelines carefully to avoid any adverse effects.
