Differin Ointment

1Why Differin is prescribed:-

A differin ointment is prescribed for the treatment of acne. It contains adapalene as an active ingredient that helps by reducing the severity of acne pimples and promotes quick healing of people. It belongs to a class of medication referred to as retinoid. It may affect the growth of cells and thereby decreasing swelling and inflammation.  

2How to use it?

Differin ointment is a topical preparation i.e it is meant for only topical purposes. It can be used as directed by your physician. It is usually applied once daily at bedtime. Before using gently clean the affected area with a mild cleanser and pat dry. Apply a thin layer of adapalene gel and try not to touch the treated face overnight. It may use regularly for 4-8 weeks to notice any improvement.

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If you forgot to apply the medicament then don't be panic, apply it as early as you remember. If the time is nearer to the next dose then skip the previous dose and continue your regular schedule. Missing a dose may lead to failure of treatment so, try to avoid missing any dose.

Overdose of Differin ointment may cause some moderate to severe skin infections. It always seeks emergency medical attention or calls to any poison control center. Tell your doctor if you are not using the medicament as advised by your physician

4Side-effects:

All medicaments may have some unwanted effects, sometimes they're serious but most of the time they are not. Some common symptoms that may be shown by Differin ointment are Redness, Dry skin, Skin burning sensation, Contact dermatitis, Skin irritation, Itching of the skin, Sunburn, Skin discomfort, Skin exfoliation, Allergic dermatitis, Pain of the skin, Skin swelling, and Eyelid irritation. Talk to your physician or pharmacist if you notice any side effects.

5Drug Interactions:

Some products that may interact with this drug are:- astringents, any other herbal product, medicated or abrasive soaps, and cleansers, soaps, and cosmetics. Talk to your physician if you use any other cosmetic products or any cream or ointment, to avoid all types of interaction.

6Precautions

  • Avoid any contact with eyes, mucous membrane, lips, mouth, or any sensitive part of the body. 
  • Don't be applied to cuts, abrasions, and sunburned skin. 
  • Avoid any exposure to sunlight or wear protective clothing or use sunscreen outdoors.
  • Avoid any other medications with adapalene for the same acne treatment. 
  • Always follow all the guidelines that are provided by your physician or pharmacist.
